K-8 General and Elementary Music Secondary Vocal

Mr. Don Wight

Although it is NOT true that I go back to the stone age, I have been around long enough to see many changes in the music world. Skinny black neck ties, to head bands and granny glasses and bell bottoms, to Hammer Pants and the infamous "Mullet," and now what seems like anything goes, fads have come and gone, but the "Art" of making good music remains constant.
My music education began in fourth grade on the trumpet. It grew from there to school and church choirs, and expanded into Musical Theatre, (my extreme sport.)
After earning my music degree I entered the building trades for several years before I returned to school to finish my teaching credentials at the University of Idaho.
I began my teaching career in Hazelton, Idaho, as a K-12 music, band, choir teacher and a drama, Cross Country and track coach.  I moved from the Magic Valley to the Treasure Valley in 2007 to the Idaho Arts Charter School where I concentrated on Elementary Music and Middle School Piano Lab.
This is my fifth year at the Emmett School District where my focus is High School Guitar and Middle School Music Exploratory and Choir.
I have three grown children scattered across the state and my amazing wife Damaris teaches Math and Science at Emmett High School.
